RESPONSIBILITIES:
Proactively cultivate and maintain relationships with reporters,
editors, producers and freelance writers as well as handle reactive media
calls. Identify and train volunteer media spokespeople to assist in
message delivery. Create and implement public relations campaigns to
target strategic audiences with cancer control messages. Actively seek out
pro bono marketing opportunities as well as approved third-party
partnerships with ad agencies, retailers and media to create and/or
underwrite ACS messages in mass media and targeted media. Track and
evaluate media promotions, public relations and develop quarterly reports.
Provide communications expertise to cross functional project teams as
assigned by Northern California Communications Director. Other duties as
assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, public relations or
related field, or equivalent experience. Minimum of three years experience
with a PR agency or in a corporate communications department. Strong and
effective verbal and writing skills. Ability to think strategically and
negotiate collaborations. Must be able to do on-camera live interviews.
Must have in-depth knowledge of news gathering and news production
processes, and working knowledge of marketing tactics. Ability to be on
call 24 hours. Travel within region and state required.
